The Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholars Program is a preeminent scholarship awarded to entering freshman who have shown excellence in academics and scholarly leadership during their high school matriculation. The prestigious Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholars Program celebrate two phenomenal educators, the late Dr. Lewis C. Dowdy, the sixth president of North Carolina A&T College and the first chancellor of North Carolina A&T State University and his wife Mrs. Elizabeth Dowdy. They served the University for twenty-one years, which included the tumultuous 1960s and 1970s.
The Dowdy Scholars funding includes scholarship and grant funding to create a total scholarship package. The base criteria for incoming freshman include a combined SAT verbal and math score of 1200 or higher, from a single test administration (not mixing scores from several tests), or an ACT of at least 26 with a weighted GPA of 3.75 or higher. All eligible freshmen must complete the Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholars application form, which includes a one-page essay and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
